SUMMARY:Nature (Re)Awaken with Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra\, under the leadership of conductor Anna Edwards\, is inviting the community to celebrate the anticipated vibrant arrival of spring with its upcoming concert\, Nature (Re)Awaken: A Celebration of Nature and Music. As we begin our transition into the blooming season\, the orchestra has curated a dynamic program filled with pieces that evoke the spirit of spring. Performances are March 8\, 7pm at South Whidbey High School and March 9\, 2pm at Oak Harbor High School.  \n\n\n\nThe concert will feature Louise Farrenc’s Overture No. 1\, a rarely performed gem by one of the 19th century’s most gifted composers; Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Idyll\, a lyrical and tranquil composition for full orchestra; Joe Jaxson’s Through the Bay\, a newly composed work inspired by the composer’s ferry ride across the waters of Puget Sound; and concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8\, a lush symphonic masterpiece that captures the splendor of nature in its rich orchestration and melody. In addition to the music\, former classical music radio host Marta Zekan will share captivating stories and commentary throughout the performance\, enriching the experience with her personal touch. \n\n\n\nTickets are priced at $30 for adults\, $25 for seniors (65+) and military members\, and free for students (17 and under). Tickets are available for purchase at local vendors\, including Moonraker Books in Langley\, Biercuterie in Freeland\, Bayleaf in Coupeville\, and Click Music in Oak Harbor. Tickets can also be purchased online\, with further details available at www.sowhidbey.com or by calling 360-929-3045.

SUMMARY:Musical Migration
DESCRIPTION:A special concert  will be held on Saturday March 15th at the  Nordic Hall a mile south of Coupeville featuring  music by Norwegian immigrant composers in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of  the first Norwegians immigrating to the United States on the sailing ship  Restauration. This free concert will be one hour in length and will begin at 11am. \n\n\n\nOur performers are pianist/composer/researcher Steven Luksan and soprano/Nordic art song expert Laura Loge\, two musicians who are also presenting  concerts\, lecture-recitals\, and workshops throughout the United States and Norway.  Much of the nearly-forgotten music they will present at this concert has been found through Steven’s archival research and has not been heard in a very long time. \n\n\n\nWe welcome all who enjoy music to come and listen to their blend of  classical music\, historically popular music (some very silly)\, and nostalgic chestnuts our grandparents used to sing. \n\n\n\nMore information about our musicians may be found on our webiste at:https://www.whidbeyislandnordiclodge.com/post/musical-migration-celebrating-the-200th-anniversary-of-norwegian-migration-to-the-u-s
