Fort Ebey was built on Patridge Point in 1942 as a World War II coastal defense near the mouth of Puget Sound. Today, it is home to 25 miles of walking and bike trails, picnics, and outdoor activities.
Set on the western side of Whidbey Island, Fort Ebey was built as an updated defense fort during the Second World War. The fort included a battery of two 6-inch guns that were later cut up for scrap. The underground emplacements and rooms are still the perfect places to explore for adventurers and history buffs alike.
Beyond the fort, enjoy 25 miles of mixed-use walking and bike trails. The bluff trail overlooks Admiralty Inlet and offers peek-a-book views of Point Wilson Lighthouse across the bay. Douglas-fir and hemlock provide shade along forested trails, and pink big-leaf rhododendrons provide a pop of color in season. With western views overlooking the Sound, Fort Ebey sunsets are unbeatable.
Surfing is a popular beach activity, and paragliding is allowed. Seaweed harvesting is allowed on the beach between April 16 and May 15 with a license. Fort Ebey also hosts a 651-acre camping park.
